5 Days gorilla trekking and mt karisimbi hike

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Kinigi.
Our Company guide will meet you at Kanombe or Kigali International Airport. If you arrive early, we can take a city tour in Kigali, visit Gisozi Genocide Memorial site, local art and craft markets etc before heading to Ruhengeri at the bottom hills of the magnificent Volcanoes. Overnight at Kinigi guest house/Hotel La palme /Mt Gorilla Nest Lodge (FB).

Rwanda Gorilla trekkingDay 2: Gorilla tracking in Parc National des Volcans.
Assemble at the Park headquarters with packed lunch and water for a briefing about gorilla tracking! Gorilla trek goes through relatively steep and slippery jungle grounds before encountering gorillas camouflaged in thick vegetation! The thrilling encounter with gorillas is worth the effort! Sight and stay is one hour, descent to your lodge, time permitting, we can take another incredible excursion to explore the beautiful twin lakes of Lake Bulera & Ruhondo. Overnight at Kinigi guest house/ Hotel La palme /Mt Gorilla Nest Lodge (FB).

Day 1: Ascending - Hiking the Karisimbi volcano.
Take a heavy breakfast and get ready for a 2 day Karisimbi volcano hiking. Karisimbi means "white shell", which refers to its often white-capped paek. The Karisimbi Volcano is the 5th highest mountain of Africa. It is a 6 hours hike via Bisoke side before reaching the first resting place at an altitude of 3,700m for overnight. It is a wonderful hike to the highest mountain in the Virungas (4507m).

Day 2: Karisimbi Hiking.
Early morning breakfast at the camp; proceed with the hike to the peak for 4 hours. Expect stunning scenery and fascinating vegetation. Descend of the volcano takes 5-7 hours. Dinner and overnight at the Kinigi guest house/ Hotel La palme /Mt Gorilla Nest Lodge (FB).

Day 5: Reserved for departure.
If you missed the city tour on your day one you will then go for it this day before your outbound flight.

Important note:

  1. No technical skills required to hike Diana Karisimbi Volcano. You only ned to be fit and healthy as the walk is quite arduous and conditions can be wet, cold and muddy.
  2. The best months to hike the Karisimbi are: January, February, March and July, August, September)
