Facts about mountain Gorillas

300 mountain gorillas inhabit an extinct volcanic region called the Virunga Range along the borders of Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in East Africa. The other 350 or so mountain gorillas inhabit Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda, a thick tropical rainforest.

In Uganda there are two parks where mountaingorillas can be seen; Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Mgahinga is situated on the extreme southwest corner of Uganda on the slopes of the Virunga Mountains. Bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, the park only covers 28 square miles so it's quite small, but besides gorillas you can also see leopards, buffalo, bushbuck and golden monkeys on a safari through the park.

Bwindi National Park is located in south-western Uganda. The park is home to about half of all mountain gorillas. Covering about 200 square miles of extremely dense rainforest, Bwindi National Park is the best destination for tracking mountain gorillas. On a gorilla tour through this park, you can as well as see chimpanzees and spectacular birdlife.
