This 4 Days Rwanda Double Gorilla Trekking Safari takes you on an adventure of a lifetime in the misty forests of Volcanoes National Park, where you will trek two different gorilla families.
Situated in the far northwest of Rwanda, Volcanoes National Park is named after the chain of dormant volcanoes making up the Virunga Massif: Karisimbi – the highest at 4,507m, Bisoke with its verdant Crater Lake, Sabinyo and Gahinga and Muhabura.
In the worlds of the eminent primatologist Dian Fossey “In the heart of Central Africa, so high up that you shiver more than you sweat, there are great, old volcanoes towering almost 15,000 feet and nearly covered with rich, green rainforests – the Virungas”.

Volcanoes National Park is home of the endangered mountain gorillas and a rich mosaic of montane ecosystems, which embrace evergreen and bamboo forests, open grassland, swamp and heath.

Detailed Itinerary of 4 Days Rwanda Double Gorilla Trekking Safari
Day 1: Kigali City – Kinigi Town
On arrival at Kigali International Airport, Kigali City – you will be warmly welcomed by our guide, he will give you a briefing about the safari and what to expect then go for a short Kigali City Tour visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre at Gisozi. After lunch you will transfer to Kinigi at the foothills of the Volcanoes National Park.

Day 2: First Mountain Gorilla Trekking Experience
Wake up early for breakfast and head to the park headquarters as early as 07:00 am where a ranger guide will brief you about the dos and don’ts while in the presence of the gorillas and where they spent their previous night.
Enter into the forests of Virunga looking for mountain gorillas, the trek takes approximately 30 minutes to 6 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas and where they spent their previous night. On find the gorillas, you will be allowed one hour of staying in their presence, observe their ways of life in the natural setting, take as many photos and videos as you can. After one hour, you will trek back to the starting point where you will meet your guide and head to your lodge for lunch. In the afternoon you will visit the Ib’Iwacu traditional village a community based tourism project where the local people showcase their traditional ways of living.
In the evening, retire to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Second Mountain Gorilla Trekking Experience
After breakfast, you will head to Volcanoes National Park for a second gorilla trekking to another gorilla family (not the previous one). Hike in the jungle and through this experience you will witness the reasons for calling Rwanda the place of thousand hills, as move to the mountains and crossings the valleys, the ranger guide will be sharing the stories of an American researcher and conservationists – Dian Fossey who studied these giant species. On encountering the mountain gorillas, take pictures and videos as you through what Diani Fossey went through during her research. After this interesting adventure retire to your lodge for lunch, later dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Departure
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast, proceed to check out of the lodge and embark on a journey back to Kigali City, where you will be dropped off at Kigali International Airport for your international flight back home or to your next destination.
