Detailed Itinerary of 7 Days Uganda Safari – Shoebill, Wildlife and Primates

Day 1: Shoe Bill Tracking in Mabamba Swamp   

Your 7 Days Uganda Safari starts with pick up from your hotel in Entebbe and transfer to Nakiwogo Ferry Station. Join a professional bird watching guide on a canoe for birding excursion through Mabamba Swamp, a primate spot to see the rare shoebill stork and many other bird species.

Afterward, reconnect with your vehicle on the Kasanje side and head southwest to the Equator Line at Kayabwe. Stand on both Northern and Southern Hemisphere, learn about the Coriolis Effect, and explore local craft shops. After this amazing experience, drive back to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Kampala-Murchison Falls National Park

After a delightful breakfast, meet your guide and embark on a journey to Murchison Falls National Park, one of the most visited National Parks in Uganda, giving you an opportunity to sight the Big 5 with en route stop at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to track rhinos on foot. Then proceed to Murchison Falls National Park, on arrival in the park you will be welcomed by sighting of some wildlife along the way, as you head to your lodge.

Spend the evening relaxing at your lodge, enjoy dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Game Drive and Boat Cruise at Murchison Falls National Park

Start your day early with a cup of African coffee as you get ready for an early morning game drive. Your guide will help you spot various animals including lions, elephants, cape buffaloes, Rothschild Giraffe, hartebeests, waterbucks, oribis, bushbucks, hyenas, and if you are lucky, the leopard.

Lunch will be served at your lodge.

In afternoon, you go for a boat trip along the Nile River, towards the Murchison Falls. Watch crocodiles, hundreds of hippos in the waters, water birds and herds of elephants and buffaloes along the banks drinking water.  You will make a stop at the bottom of the 43 meters high and famous Murchison Falls, which approaches you with a thunderous sound as narrow cleft in the River Valley Escarpment to plunge into a frothing pool 43 m below.  Return to your lodge for inner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Murchison Falls – Kibale Forest National Park

After breakfast, set off to Kibale Forest National Park with en-route lunch. Along the way you will watch the local people go on with their life and attend to their gardens. Arrive in Kibale in the evening, check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Chimpanzee Tracking and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Have early breakfast and head to the park headquarters for briefing about chimpanzee trekking, then head into the Kibale Forest looking for chimpanzees. Along the trek you may encounter other primates like Vervet monkeys, blue monkeys and black and white colobus monkeys among others. After an hour of being in the presence of the chimpanzees observing them feed, play, pick fruits and going on with their life in the forest.

After the experience, you will embark on a journey to Bwindi Forest National Park arriving in the evening, check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6: Gorilla Trekking Experience

Wake up early for breakfast, meet your guide and head to the park headquarters for briefing which begins at 8:00 am with a briefing from a senior guide. In groups of 8 people, you will be assigned a gorilla family to trek depending on your fitness and interest.

With armed ranger guide, you will head into the forest looking for mountain gorillas. The trek takes approximately 2 to 6 hours or more depending on the movement of the gorillas, once you locate the gorillas you will spend one hour in their presence observing them go on with their life, watch them feed, play and groom. You are allowed to take pictures as long as your flash light is off.

Then trek back to the park headquarters, meet your guide and return to your lodge for an evening of rest while reminiscing on the day’s adventure. 

Dinner and overnight stay at Buhoma lodge

Day 7: Bwindi – Entebbe  

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast, meet your guide and embark on a journey back to Entebbe with en-route lunch in Mbarara and at the Equator for photography session, before you are transferred to the Entebbe Airport to catch your flight back home.
